How We Began

Prior to founding Addvelop, Katherine Mabel Owens spent over a decade working in the consumer product industry for two Fortune 500 companies advancing sales, marketing, and business initiatives.

With an eye for industry trends and opportunities, Mabel served as an account executive for a P.R. and marketing agency. She managed both P.R. and advertising teams for multiple accounts of mid-size businesses. Her strategic and creative positioning significantly advanced these clients.

For almost a decade, Mabel served as Vice President of Business Development for a large publicly traded confectionery company. In this position, she maximized business growth throughthe addition of new products, enhanced domestic and international sales channels, and the acquisition of licensing deals. Her contribution in these areas is reflected in articles and quotes in a variety of trade publications.

Mabel earned an executive coaching certificate in order to fulfill her drive to empower others to create and achieve their career goals. This coaching experience grew into an interest in education.

Mabel drew from her skills in business to approach education: Why not strategically develop an innovative curriculum that markets and engages students in the application of knowledge, exciting career pathways, and the wonderment of learning?

Mabel pursued a career in education and taught studio art, STEM, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Over the next decade, Mabel developed curricula using a data-driven and interdisciplinary approach tied to standards and sheer excitement for learning. As an Innovative Educational Strategist and Teacher, Mabel (and her students) have won numerous national awards and honors in STEM, innovation, art, and sustainability.

Mabel has provided consultation for public and private, local, and national institutions, supporting their growth, strategy, and effectiveness in business and education. As an active advocate and member of the business and educational learning communities, Mabel gives back to her community as a peer editor, liaison for community educational programming, and guest speaker.

Nate D. - Education

It is once in a lifetime to have had the privilege of working with and learning alongside a modern-day Renaissance woman, such as Mabel Owens. I have been so fortunate to get to know Mabel as her former supervisor and the parent of a child who has learned from her. Having worked in public, private, independent, and international schools all over the world I have yet to come across such an innovative program as the one Mabel created. Her course caught fire and quickly became a key differentiator, attracting many families and curious educators. Mabel is a multifaceted teacher whose expertise and grasp of STEM equal her understanding and use of effective learning strategies and student assessments. Her creativity in assessing students in a way that showcases their understanding and allows for modern ways for students to express their knowledge and skills is spot on. Mabel’s social IQ, perception of students’ needs, and ability to differentiate their learning allow students to feel understood and celebrated. Watching her rapport with her students is heartwarming, and she pushes each child to strengthen their skills, apply their learning, and be engaged problem solvers. Mabel’s impact stretches well beyond the walls of the school, and she has developed partnerships with many local and national organizations.
